it’s getting a little more real
The production and polish continue on our little game. This part of the development is interesting. As we try to wind down on new features being added and whittling down the scope, we keep finding bugs or other unintended behavior that reels us back in for more development on the game’s functions and mechanics.
game updates, yes
One half of our humble studio is focused almost entirely on the backlog of various art assets, and the other is primarily on cleanup crew for major bugs and missing functionality to make a complete experience.
It’s like we’re playing our own two player co-op game, in some ways.
fearless bug killers
It’s probably not an accurate stat, but in the past month and a half we’ve closed out over 30 different bugs. Don’t ask how many we’ve discovered.
Plenty of these bugs were game breaking or otherwise softlocked progression, and so our focus on making a playable experience has paid off in a relatively stable game. Well, or at least more stable than it was!
future artists
Yeah, maybe…
Generating art for the game was always going to be a challenge, as nobody here is much of an artist (yet?) It takes a little extra time for us to conceptualize and actually get this type of content in the game, we’re learning as we go.
But, seeing our style come to life in the game has been an a complete experience for us. From good vibes to the pit of despair on any number of challenges such as the sprites, shaders, tilesets, etc., and this doesn’t even count the sound effects and music we have yet to complete!
what games are we playing, this time?
Elden Ring Nightreign has been getting a fair amount of play, from one of us. It’s a fair amount of fun with a regular group, wouldn’t let the percieved difficulty keep you away. It really is a lot of fun to overcome the challenges, if you can handle getting your ass kicked for the first 10 hours or so.
Yuzo Koshiro’s studio, Ancient, also released Earthion. Not a whole lot of time on the clock playing it as it just came out on Thursday this past week, but fair to say it’s a great retro shmup with some surprising depth and an awesome soundtrack done by one of the 16-bit era’s best.
Thank Goodness You’re Here! is a comical little adventure with an overwhelmingly positive rating.
And, uh. Has anyone else been interested in trying Umamusume: Pretty Derby? Just us?
that’s a wrap
We’ll be back soon, promise.
